In this week's chapter we are looking at dashes, which are not the same as hyphens! (If you've forgotten, hyphens join works to make hyphenated words.) Dashes have a few jobs that are easily to learn.
1. They can be used just like commas or brackets to show parenthesis.
2. They can be used like a colon or semi-colon to separate two clauses.
3. They can be used to show a dramatic pause.
Read the text and look for examples where the author uses dashes.
Choose a level of activity sheet (Red is easiest, Green is middle, Blue is hardest). Most children should be doing the green.
Read the blurb at the top of the sheet and complete the questions.
