Intent

Ripple Primary School recognises the value of Physical Education, School Sports and Physical Activity (PESSPA) and the essential part it plays in ensuring our pupils attain optimum physical, emotional and social development and good health. We fully adhere to the aims of the national curriculum for PE to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities through fundamental skills and game principles
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time giving them the tools and knowledge to help them lead a healthy lifestyle
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities be it through a PE lesson, intra and inter competitions or extra-curricular learning. These will support the teaching and understanding of resilience, confidence, motivation, leadership and core values such as fairness and respect
  • Lead healthy, active lives and maintain good mental well-being

We have chosen to use the Get Set 4 PE scheme of work to ensure our staff deliver high quality PE lessons and have a sound understanding of each PE unit. This SOW provides clear guidelines of each unit with learning objectives, success criteria and whole child objectives. There are videos and illustrations to accompany most lessons so both teachers and children have a clear visual representation of what is expected to achieve the outcomes of the unit.

We hope our children leave Ripple with a strong foundation in physical education, equipped with the essential skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and a lifelong appreciation for health, well-being and fitness.
