As well as phonics lessons, pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 take part in Little Wandle Reading Practice Sessions, in which they read fully decodable Little Wandle Big Cat books in small, adult-led groups three times per week. Each of these three reading practice sessions lasts 20-30 minutes has a different focus; decoding on day one, prosody on day two and comprehension on day three.

On the third day, these decodable books are sent home to allow pupils to continue to build their reading fluency and demonstrate their developing reading skills and phonetic knowledge to their parents/carers.
